A New Color for Each Season
Golden-yellow needles turn to deep gold in fall. There are so many uses for this charming dwarf White Cedar that to list them seems only to limit the possibilities! Reaching just 3 to 5 feet high after 10 years’ growth, it sports small foliage that changes color with every season, remaining green through winter. It forms a naturally rounded shape that needs minimal pruning to keep it neat and tidy year-round. And it is exceptionally cold-hardy, thriving in the harsh winters of zone 2 without damage.
The new spring leaves on this slow grower are bright golden-orange, remaining for many weeks until the summer weather arrives. Then they turn a rich shade of green but keep their yellow overtones. In autumn, they burnish deep copper, and keep this color through winter.Very well-branched, bushy, and lush, this small tree thrives in consistently moist soil with good drainage and protection from drying winds. It makes a fine foundation planting, low hedge, rock garden standout, or border choice, and of course it is splendid in containers. A native American plant, it is impervious to most pests and diseases, and very tolerant of adversity. The perfect punctuation for a formal garden, or a soft silhouette to contrast with tall and angular plantings.
