Malus Honeycrisp

Large, sweet apples stay crisp even after 5 months or more in storage!

Honeycrisp bears loads of apples with the most crispy, crunchy texture we’ve ever encountered and are fast becoming one of America’s favorite apples. The large, 3-inch (or more!) fruits display a lovely scarlet red mottling over a deep yellow background, and their juicy cream-colored flesh has a sweet, delicate flavor. Exceptional crispness is what lends these apples their distinct character, and they retain their crunchy texture even after 5 months or more in storage. Honeycrisp apples have been consistently rated superior to the fruit of McIntosh, Honeygold, Regent, and Delicious and make excellent dessert apples for eating fresh or in pies, applesauce, and apple crisps.

Developed at the University of Minnesota, this cross of Macoun and Honeygold reliably bears an abundant crop of large fruit even in the coldest winters and with no flower thinning required. The fruit ripens evenly over a 3-week period and hangs well on the tree even after the optimum harvest period has passed. These dwarf-size trees reach 8 to 10 feet tall and wide at maturity. This is an outstanding apple variety that deserves a place in every home orchard.
