Magnolia Leonard Messel

One of the most desirable of the hybrid Magnolias!

One of the most desirable hybrid Magnolias, especially for the small garden, due to its controlled yet vigorous growth, Leonard Messel is a multiple award-winning Magnolia.

This chance seedling forms a multi-stemmed, densely branched small tree that grows in a rather upright habit, blooming profusely in early spring on naked branches. Very wind- and frost-resistant, the flowers are single, 5 inches across, with 12 strap-like petals that are creamy white inside and suffused with pink outside. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, this tree must have excellent drainage. Thrives in dappled shade, such as in deciduous woodlands.

Zones 5-10.
