An “”Orienpet”" Lily — part Oriental, part Trumpet, all big bloom and bigger scent!
A single bloom of this magnificent new creation perfumes the entire home or garden, yet each stalk bears enormous flowerheads with new buds that open when the old flowers pass! Such a show of color and fragrance is almost an embarrassment of riches — and certainly one you’ll want to plant in the sunny garden immediately.
‘Silk Road’ is an Orienpet Lily, a new type of hybrid that is the lifework of breeder Judith Freeman. Orienpets combine the best characteristics of Oriental and Trumpet Lilies, giving you massive flowers and plenty of them, with strong, vibrant colors, substantial petal texture, and — most of all — fragrance. If you judge a garden by the allure of its scent, this Lily will quickly become your crowning glory. It’s no exaggeration to say that it’s the most fragrant in the world, with a sweet, spicy, pervasive aroma most people will find irresistible.
This Lily carries its 8- to 10-inch blooms in large inflorescences up to 2 feet across. Most also bear secondary buds, which open when the first dramatic bloom flush is fading. This extends the season of color by several weeks, giving you an unrivalled display in mid- to late summer. The stems reach 6 feet tall and are quite sturdy, so you needn’t fear them toppling in the first strong wind (or passing dog, as the case may be!).’Silk Road’ thrives in full sun and any well-drained garden soil. It is hardy in zones 4-9.
