Lilium ‘Robert Swanson’

Exquisite Color on Extra-Large Blooms

Lightly fragrant, it is a good choice for those who find the heavy musk of most Orienpets overpowering indoors.

Among the most beautiful of all the Orienpets, ‘Robert Swanson’ can be difficult to locate but is highly rewarding to grow. These large 6 1/2-inch blooms offer some of the most distinctive color patterning in the Orienpet family, and their subtle fragrance makes them accessible to those who cannot bear the overpowering musk of other cultivars in the vase.

Opening from long, slender buds of pale green brushed with yellow and soft red, the flowers sport bronzy-red petals heavily edged in gold washed with peach and pink tones. Absolutely magnificent, their rich color is sunproof, and they are very long-lasting in garden or vase. Expect them to open by the dozen or so in mid- to late summer on plants just a bit under 4 feet tall and up to 2 feet wide. ‘Robert Swanson’ is a good “”midsize”" Lily, finding its place in the Lily garden behind the dwarf varieties and facing down the very tall cultivars.’Robert Swanson’ was introduced by the great plantsman Griesbach in 2002, and we are honored to offer it to Wayside gardeners this season.
