Lilium Nepalense

Perfect for the Dry Shade Beneath Trees

This Himalayan native thrives in dappled to half shade.

Hard to find and very elegant, the Nepal Lily is a standout in the partly shaded border. So compact it never needs staking, it blooms lavishly in early and midsummer. And it is so adaptable that it even tolerates the dry shade beneath trees. The blooms are gently recurved and dangle in candelabra of 4 to 6. The base color is chartreuse to yellow, with very large central blotch of wine-red saturating half the petal. A very unusual color combination, it offers a quiet elegance in any dappled to half shaded area.Growing just 2 to 3 feet tall and no more than a foot wide, this Lily never needs staking, and is quite adaptable to varying soils and environmental conditions. Native to the Himalayas, it is happiest in the temperate to warm climate of zones 6-8.
