Hydrangea ‘Mirranda’

Spectacular Variegated Climbing Hydrangea!

Grows more slowly but much more showy!

Introduced in 1999 by Guy and Jeanie Meacham of Rippingale Nursery in Oregon, this variegated form of Climbing Hydrangea is characterized by dark green heart-shaped foliage irregularly edged in warm gold. Lush, white, flattened lace-cap flower heads spanning 6 inches across arise in late spring with the outer florets opening first. Mirranda is a deciduous vine, but its attractive reddish cinnamon-brown bark sheds for dramatic winter interest. A true clinging vine, Mirranda uses root-like holdfasts to attach to rough surfaces such as trees or textured stone walls. However, growing at a slightly slower rate than the species, it will never outgrow its bounds.

Also like its green-leaved cousins, Mirranda thrives in part shade. Just provide enough indirect sun to intensify the golden leaf edges but avoid exposure to harsh afternoon sun. Averse to rough handling during transplanting, Mirranda prefers to be left alone in one location, although the extra care required in establishing this plant is more than made up for in its ornamental interest. Requires little to no pruning, exhibits excellent resistance to deer, and is hardy to Zone 5. Mirranda is the perfect vine to brighten any shady nook in your garden. Zones 5-9.
