Bright Cream “”Watermarks”" on Every Leaf
This tricolor is a sport of H. ‘Blue Boy.’
A tricolored Hosta is a thing of beauty, and ‘Deja Blu’ is particularly handsome, combining a fresh spring-green edging with a wide blue-green center and a jagged dividing line of bright cream. The effect is of a smaller, darker leaf placed on a larger one — very interesting in the partly to fully shaded border or container.Arising as a sport of H. ‘Blue Boy,’ ‘Deja Blu’ is the newest and best from the original group of seedlings called “”Blue Boy Variegated,”" which also includes the popular ‘Wooly Bully.’ It sports large, heart-shaped leaves fully 7 inches long and 4 inches wide, which form layers and layers of rich color. No two are exactly alike, but all share in the multiple shades of blue, green, and blue-green separated by the slender “”watermark”" of bright creamy white. This Hosta reaches 14 inches high and 16 inches wide, and is happy even in full shade. In midsummer it is topped by insignificant lavender blooms on 18- to 20-inch scapes, and it keeps its colors even in extreme heat and humidity. Do not give it much sun; it is happy in quite a bit of shade.Superb for the border, containers, and accent plantings, this exceptional Hosta stands out in any setting.
