Even more showy than Heucherella Sunspot!
This exciting new Heucherella is so brightly colored it just might stop traffic. Each bright yellow leaf of this low-growing shade-lover is marked with a large central red mark and topped with a tall spike of gleaming white blooms. It is certain to be a crowd pleaser in the partly shaded bed, border, or container. The show is most dramatic in spring, when the new foliage unfurls glistening gold with a red blotch. The red coloring extends from the center of each divided leaf outward along the veins.
Then in late spring, tall stems arise from the center of the plant, studded with a 6-inch spike of white blooms.Stoplight may remind you of another sensational Foamy Bells, the popular Sunspot. And it should — it was developed by the same folks (the innovative crew out at Terra Nova Nurseries in Oregon). But Stoplight is a considerable improvement over Sunspot, both in foliage and color. The leaves are larger and more sharply delineated, and the color pattern is far more longer-lasting. Just 6 inches high, Stoplight spreads a full foot and a half wide in partial shade.
A native American perennial, it is relatively free from diseases and pests and easy to grow, so the possibilities for garden use are endless!Space plants about 18 inches apart in well-drained soil heavily enriched with organic matter, and keep on the moist rather than the dry side, especially during the first few seasons. Spotlight will bloom the first year from a spring planting and, despite its hardiness range right through zone 9 in the south, proves very cold-tolerant. Easy and adaptable — the best traits of any garden plant, let alone a knockout new color pattern like this one.
