Hemerocallis ‘Malachite Prism’

Award-winning Color Pattern and Flower Form Reblooms after its midseason debut.

Have you ever seen color patterning and petal form like this on a Daylily. We haven’t either, which is why we knew we had to have this 1999 Doorakian introduction.

An award winner with a unique blend of bright green, violet, red, and pink, ‘Malachite Prism’ is a stunning centerpiece for the sunny garden, your best containers, or any Daylily display. These 4 1/4-inch blooms are a blaze of brilliant color, from the dramatically elongated eyezone of rich red-violet to the ultra-large green and yellow throat to the bold lavender-pink tones on every petal. The lower petals curl upward around the edges, showing off their green tips, while the upper petals recurve sharply. Utterly unique! The flowers appear first in midseason, arising very freely on this 3-foot-tall, 2 1/2- to 2-foot-wide plant.

Then they repeat near season’s end, offering an eye-popping encore for the season. ‘Malachite Prism’ is a semi-evergreen diploid hardy through zone 10, so it’s a great choice for the south and west, while still being entirely cold-hardy through zone 4 in the north. No wonder it’s won so many awards<G. Doorakian is known for breeding Daylilies with distinctively large throats, interesting edges, and exotic flower forms. ‘Malachite Prism’ is among his very best, showing off all these traits with the addition of brilliant colors!Daylilies are among the easiest of all perennials to grow, withstanding heat, humidity, poor soil, drought, and cold effortlessly. They don’t mind a bit of neglect, and even spread over time, so that you can divide them every few years for plenty more color. Plant this heat-lover fearlessly even in the steamy regions of zone 10. Zones 4-10.
