Hemerocallis ‘Clothed in Glory’

Hemerocallis ‘Clothed in Glory’: Lovely “”piecrust”" edging accentuates the gold!

This glorious Daylily should have been named Wreathed in Smiles, because that’s what you’ll be the moment these giant, gorgeous blooms begin appearing all over easy-to-grow, compact plants!

The flowers are bright magenta with a stunning golden “”goosebump”" edge — and when you consider that you get 15 to 17 blooms on every stem, imagine how your garden will look when a large planting is in full bloom. The flowers measure 7 inches across, and the “”piecrust”" edges accentuate each petal, so that the blooms appear even larger. And this plant is just 18 inches high and wide; compact enough for a container, yet large enough to make a big impact as edging or in the border.A midsummer bloomer, ‘Clothed in Glory’ is a tetraploid with twice the get-up-and-grow power of traditional diploids. It isn’t as cold-hardy as varieties that go totally dormant, but it can be heavily mulched for success right up to zone 4, and the evergreen foliage is a huge plus in warm-climate gardens. Vigorous, exceptionally productive, and long-blooming, it’s destined to be a mainstay of the perennial garden.

‘Clothed in Glory’ was propagated by division, NOT by tissue culture. This is important, for tissue-cultured Daylilies often do not bloom true, and in the case of ‘Clothed in Glory,’ the first thing lost is the splendid ruffled gold edge. You can be sure that with Wayside Daylilies, you are getting the true breeding. Daylilies are one of the easiest and most rewarding perennials to grow. They stand up to rough conditions from poor soil to heat, humidity, and even drought without turning a petal, and need no maintenance. They leaf out a bit late in spring, which makes them ideal in the bulb garden, where their emerging foliage helps hide the dying stems of the Daffodils. Space these 2-year-old bareroot plants about 18 inches apart for a solid mass of color. Zones 5-9.”
