These Dainty Nodding Bells Stand Out in Pots of Every Kind
A carefree, deer- and pest-resistant treasure
This delightful spring-blooming bulb produces up to 5 bell-shaped, pendant blooms on each stem! Each maroon-stained petal curves outward at the tips, and looks as if it were dipped in bright golden paint. The blooms adorn greyish-green, sword-shaped foliage that’s wonderfully deer- and pest-resistant, making this charmer an ideal choice for low-maintenance landscapes.
This native Turkish bulb is found growing in alpine meadows and on rocky slopes. One of the smallest Fritillaria, it reaches just 6 to 8 inches tall but puts on quite a show in rock gardens, troughs, or patio pots. Plant these bulbs 3 to 4 inches deep and 3 inches apart in a fertile, very well-drained area that receives full sun to partial shade. If left alone and undisturbed from year to year, this petite treasure will naturalize beautifully. Zones 5-8.
