Fritillaria Meleagris

Checkered Heirloom Blooms in Rich Burgundy, Rose, and Ivory!

Unique harlequin patterning and a fuss-free habit!

(Heirloom, 1572). Also called the Snake’s Head Fritillary, this 12-inch plant sports long, grassy foliage and pendulous bell-shaped flowers uniquely checkered with yellow, white, rose and burgundy. One of the longest-cultivated Fritillaries in history, once native to flood plains throughout Northwest Europe, it is now losing its hold in the wild due to population growth and destruction of habitat. This unique treasure grows well in damp, sandy loam in sun and will naturalize by self-seeding itself here and there around the garden. It is ideal for rock gardens and tucking into small garden nooks and crannies. Plant bulbs 3 inches deep and space 3 to 4 inches apart. Zones 3-8.
