Cornus Samaritan

Handsome Variegation, Stunning Fall Color bright red fruits arise in summer and fall, bringing birds to the garden.

Cultivar name: Samzam.

Samaritan is a multi-season tree par excellence, with a pleasing new look each time the weather changes. In spring, its leaves emerge brightly edged in white and generously rippled. They keep both their variegation and their wavy texture right through the summer heat, refusing to scorch! In late spring they are almost obscured, though, by masses of big, 4-petaled white blooms, each starred with a pale green center. After the blooms pass, bright red fruit — irresistible to birds — arises, remaining through fall and into winter. And with the first breath of cool fall air, the leaves turn vivid shades of pink, red, and burgundy!Just 20 to 25 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide, this exceptionally hardy tree is quite disease-resistant. Give it a sunny spot and let it brighten your landscape as an accent or specimen planting. Zones 4-9.
