Huge Fully Double Blooms for Many Weeks Continues flowering 2 weeks beyond other C. florida selections.
This beloved selection of our native Dogwood is without a doubt the most fully double-flowered. Each 5- to 6-inch bloom — in itself an extraordinary size for a Dogwood bloom! — is packed with 20 petals of pure white, all surrounding a gaily ruffled green center. And as if huge size and double form weren’t enough, ‘Eternal Dogwood’ doesn’t seem to know when to stop blooming, continuing for about 2 weeks beyond all others. Incredible, known as the Bob Timberlake Dogwood for the man who developed it, this handsome tree reaches about 18 to 25 feet tall and 15 to 18 feet wide in full sun, the ideal size for a specimen in the front yard. And it’s the tree you certainly want front and center in the garden, for it makes everything else just that much better, its giant globes of pure white looking like snowballs in the spring sun. Just as easy to grow as other Dogwoods, ‘Eternal Dogwood’ is untroubled by heat and humidity, thriving in the steamier regions of the south. But it’s also hardy through zone 6 in the north, and very adaptable to differing soil types. This is a tree to fall in love with; do consider it for your landscape. Zones 6-9.
