Clematis Wisley

Extra-vigorous, thanks to its Clematis viticella parentage.

Plant Patent #17,705. Cultivar name: ‘Evipo001′.

A Clematis to treasure for many years to come, Wisley? is the latest introduction from renowned Clematarian Raymond Evison. It combines the look of C. jackmanii flowers — large, blue, and elegantly crinkled — with the vigor of C. viticella cultivars, and adds the extra-long bloomtime for which Evison’s Clematis are so celebrated. The result? Months of reblooming flowers so beautiful you’ll find yourself going out of your way to gaze at them every day. These blooms are 4 to 5 inches wide and pure blue, with faint striping down the center of each petal and nicely crimped edges.

They begin in early summer and rebloom continuously all season, lasting into autumn in most climates. While many Clematis flower very heavily for a few weeks, then rest and repeat a month or two later, Wisley? repeats almost constantly, for an extended season of color!Wisley? reaches 7 feet high and 5 feet wide, a good size for mailboxes, lampposts, trellises, and threading through Roses and other open-habit shrubs. Its name is a tribute to C. jackmanii, the classic blue Clematis developed in 1858 in Wisley, near Woking.

The superb breeding of this plant ensures that it will be extra vigorous — it has C. viticella in its parentage, an exceptionally robust species that keeps Wisley? cold-hardy and resilient!Like most Clematis, Wisley? grows best when its roots are cool and its tops warm. When you plant it, mulch heavily around the base of the plant, and try to keep the soil moisture fairly uniform. Give it something to climb, and it will take off obligingly, filling the summer and early autumn garden with brilliant color for countless seasons to come! Space plants 3 feet apart. Pruning Group 1. Zones 4-9.”
