Bred on Roogoja Farm (along the 58th Parallel) by the late Mr. Uno Kivistik, Huvi™ demonstrates all the merits that have made the Kivistiks some of the best Clematis available in the world today:

Early flowering, from a young age

Compact growth habit

Very heavy bud set

These large blooms arise profusely on plants just 6 to 7 1/2 feet long, reappearing all summer long. Boasting long, brilliant neon-pink to carmine petals with a darker red stripe running down the center, they stop visitors in their tracks and demand a closer look. Descended from Clematis ‘Pohjanael’ x Clematis ‘Niobe’, they are among the most richly colored blooms in the Clematis family — and you can expect to see them a full season earlier and more abundantly than other varieties’.

Compact enough for containers, Huvi™ grows vigorously in sun to light shade. Its color complements the blues and purples of the Clematis garden, and it makes a fine companion to another Kivistik cultivar, icy blue Silmakivi. Add these spectacular Clematis to your landscape this season for years of outstanding performance, no matter what your climate or how extreme your weather.

Zones 3-9.

Flowers on both old and new wood, giving you the longest bloomtime of just about any Clematis!

Rosemoor is an absolutely stunning new Clematis with the longest bloomtime We’ve ever seen, PLUS giant flowers in a particularly rich shade of reddish-purple. If there is a showier or more exciting Clematis in the world today, I have yet to see it, and I’m delighted to be able to make Rosemoor available for your garden this season.

These flowers reach 5 to 6 inches across, suffused with long-lasting color and starred with a small, frilly yellow center. Expect them to begin in late spring and to keep coming right into fall — 5 months is typical! I’d call Rosemoor a rebloomer, but really it’s a nearly continuous show, as first the old-wood buds blossom, then the new-wood ones open! There has never been a Clematis with this kind of flower power, and I have the feeling it may transform the way we use this woody climber in the garden.

Rosemoor reaches 7 feet tall and about 6 feet wide, the ideal size for a trellis, lamppost, mailbox, or other support. It makes a fine companion to climbing Roses and open-habit shrubs such as Butterfly Bush, and its deep shade of reddish purple is ideal against blue-leafed plants. What a knockout!Like most Clematis, Rosemoor™ grows best when its roots are in shade and its tops in sun. Mulch very well around this plant to keep the soil temperature uniform, and give it something to climb. You will be rewarded with many years of glorious color! Pruning Group 1.

Hardiness: Zones 4-9.

Exceptionally long-blooming.

Bred on Roogoja Farm (along the 58th Parallel) by the late Mr. Uno Kivistik, Silmakivi™ demonstrates all the merits that have made the Kivistiks some of the best Clematis available in the world today:

Early flowering, from a young age

Compact growth habit

Very heavy bud set

Exceptionally floriferous and long-blooming, Silmakivi™ sets masses of icy-blue blooms, each with a broad white stripe down the center of every petal. The first flowers arise in early summer, and new blooms are still opening in autumn. Like all the Kivistiks, Silmakivi™ begins blooming quite young, a season or two in advance of other cultivars.

Just 5 to 6 feet long, this plant is ideal for containers as well as garden growth. It is hardy through zone 2 in the north, yet tolerates the heat and humidity of the deep south, southwest, and midwest without dropping a leaf. It makes a fine companion to another Kivistik cultivar, neon-pink Huvi. Add these spectacular Clematis to your landscape this season for years of outstanding performance.

Zones 2-9.

Heavenly Fragrance and Profuse Fall Blooms.

With a fuller habit and myriad small white flowers, this is a clematis with a difference.

Beginning in later summer and lasting into fall, thousands of small, 1-inch white blooms appear on this vine, richly scenting the air. The star-shaped blooms are followed by silver-sheened seedheads that make lovely winter arrangements. Give this eager-to-grow vine a sturdy support, such as a strong fence, wall, or even a low building, and watch it spread.

Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performace is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch on a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established, they take a season or two to get going. Sweet Autumn Clematis is in Group III of the pruning category, which means you should cut back the vine in early spring to just above the base of last year’s stems (about a foot from the ground).

Zones 5-9.

4 inches across and superb for cutting, these flowers are utterly unique in the Clematis family.

Plant Patent #15,093. Cultivar: ‘EVErida’.

Long-season color has never been so distinctive. This new cultivar from Raymond Evison — the king of Clematarians — is all the rage in Japan, and one glance at its large, unusual blooms tells you why. The 4-inch flowers open in early summer a creamy-white, then mature — over the course of a long season — to pale green! At the beginning of autumn, just as the rest of the garden is looking rather forlorn, these magnificent blooms begin appearing all over tall, vigorous vines. It’s like a second bloom season — and unlike many reblooms, a more interesting one than the first.

Very choice for container culture and ideal for twining up Roses and other shrubs, Pistachio™ reaches 10 feet tall and about 3 feet wide. The flowers are lovely in the vase as well as on the vine, offering long-lasting texture and color. Prune the plant back in early spring to about 12 inches tall. Perennial in zones 6-9; elsewhere, bring containers indoors for winter.

This rare heirloom has been a gardening favorite since introduction in 1875!

Introduced in 1875, this rare heirloom bears fluffy, fully double, 4-inch pompons that are unlike any other large-flowered hybrid. Their delicate complexion of palest pink fades to soft silvery-mauve, creating an unforgettable effect as great clouds appear in early summer and seem to glow in morning and at dusk. It reaches 6 to 8 feet tall, making it an ideal choice for containers, borders, or threading through open-habit shrubs like roses.

Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established, they take a season or two to get going. ‘Belle of Woking’ is a Group II Clematis for pruning purposes, which means that in early spring you should cut back the vine 6 or 8 inches to the nearest pair of strong leaf axil buds.

Zones 4-9.

Needs No Pruning

If you love the late-blooming giant Sweet Autumn Clematis, you must try its spring-flowering relative! A C. montana hybrid that grows very quickly and never needs pruning (hurrah!), ‘Broughton Star’ offers thousands of semi-double pink blooms over a long season. It is no exaggeration to say that when in bloom, this Clematis transforms the landscape into a sea of rosy-pink.

Beginning in late spring and continuing through early summer, this 15- to 20-foot-long, 5- to 8-foot-wide vine is clothed in 2 1/2-inch blooms the color of crushed strawberries. Semi-double and very showy, they offset the dark green foliage beautifully, and stand out sweetly with their central cluster of yellow and white. You will never complain that this climber isn’t productive enough; ‘Broughton Star’ sets more blooms than seems possible!

Bred by a British couple who named it for their parish, ‘Broughton Star’ was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the British Clematis Society, and has already become a popular favorite in Europe. The new spring foliage emerges in bright bronzy tones, and some of this color remains when the flowers begin, adding even more zip to the display. Very fast-growing, ‘Broughton Star’ makes a fine cover-up for that ugly wall, chain-link fence, or deteriorating garden outbuilding. It can be threaded up trees or open-habit shrubs, or even grown alongside a climbing Rose such as Dream Weaver. It grows easily in full sun or light shade. Zones 5-9.

Gorgeous periwinkle flowers with yellow eyes.

Clematis x Durandii boasts rich periwinkle blossoms with yellow eyes that nearly obliterate the foliage of this heirloom hybrid from early through late summer. Clematis are prized for their profuse display, but this French hybrid (developed around 1820 and related to the classic Clematis x jackmanii) is an overachiever, boasting 3- to 4-inch blooms that offer weeks of dazzling cut flowers.

For sensational blooms in almost all colors of the rainbow, few vines approach Clematis. Train them on arbors, grow against walls or fences, use for screening unsightly vistas, or to climb over stumps or poles. Grow them through taller shrubs such as Roses or Viburnums, or through Dogwood trees. Clematis also makes a lovely container plant. Float a few blooms in a bowl of water for a lovely table centerpiece.

Clematsi x Durandii reaches 6 to 10 feet tall and blooms all summer. For heaviest flowering, prune back to 12 inches from the ground in early spring.

Huge, Fully Double Blooms on a Dwarf Plant.

Up to 6 inches across, these flowers simply cover the vine two seasons a year!

Plant Patent #15,953. Cultivar ‘Vanso’.

Clematis lovers, your dreams have come true Blue Light® is a magnificent double-flowered blue, with blooms up to 6 inches across, packed with petals, and arising all over the place not once but twice every year! Add to this a dwarf plant habit that makes Blue Light® perfect for containers and other small spaces, and you’ve got the best thing that’s happened to the American garden in a long, long time.

Descended from one of the all-time favorite varieties — classic Mrs. Cholmondeley — Blue Light® offers plenty of pale blue blooms, some tinged with violet, measuring 5 to 6 inches across. The flowers open first from spring through early summer, then again from late summer till fall.

Unlike many other large-flowered varieties, however, Blue Light® is compact enough for container culture, growing only 6 to 8 feet tall! Foliage is bold and healthy on strong vines. Selected in Holland by Frans Van Heasteert. Plant in full sun to light shade in any well-drained, rich soil. Zones 4-9.

Veronica’s Choice blooms in late spring and then in late summer.

Veronica’s Choice features fully double, bicolored blossoms ranging from pale lavender streaked with rose to deep purple on strong 6- to 8-foot vines. This dynamic plant blooms profusely over two seasons each year; first on old wood in late spring, then again on new wood in late summer (when flowers may be single).

“Queen of the climbers” is what one British Clematis expert calls them. For sensational blooms in almost all colors of the rainbow, few vines approach Clematis. Huge flowers, sometimes as much as 9 inches across, are lavishly produced, often for months at a time. Foliage is clean and attractive.

Many Clematis have fluffy seed heads that extend the season of interest and can be used in arrangements. Clematis never fail to make an opulent display.

Best in light (not deep) shade. Pruning Group II. Prune for shape, if desired, before new spring growth.

Zones 4-9.

‘Niobe’ is a Group II Clematis for pruning purposes, which means that in early spring you should cut back the vine 6 or 8 inches to the nearest pair of strong leaf axil buds.

One of the first Clematis to bloom in late spring — and then generously repeating at season’s end! — ‘Miss Bateman’ is a rare delight for garden or container. Compact, very heavy-flowered, and boasting charming silvery seedheads in addition to the huge white blooms, it’s a showpiece of a plant you’ll want for your finest containers and garden spots.

The blooms are a full 6 inches wide, with symmetrically-held white petals and showy red anthers. When they pass, they’re replaced by delightful seedpods that can be cut and dried for indoor arrangements or left on the plant for several additional weeks of beauty. This compact, free-flowering plant is such a marvel in the garden that it was given the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticulture Society, and has been a mainstay ever since.

Complementing every other color in the garden, ‘Miss Bateman’ is a fine choice for growing through evergreen shrubs as well as gracing containers. Its extra season of bloom keeps you in color at the beginning and end of summer, yet at just 6 to 8 feet high, it’s easy to manage and never gets rangy.

‘Miss Bateman’ is a Group II Clematis for pruning purposes. The first spring after planting, cut the plant back to about a foot from the ground. The second spring, cut it back to about 3½ feet. All subsequent springs, cut back all stems to the first pair of buds.

Zones 4-9.

A spectacle from June through September — that’s 4 full months of bloom!

The classic Clematis beloved by gardeners for more than 100 years, C. x jackmanii blooms so heavily from June through September that you should abandon all hope of viewing the foliage! One of the loveliest climbers of all time, it will remain a beloved favorite as long as gardeners treasure profuse, rich color! The 4-petaled blooms are held wide open and measure 4 to 6 inches across.

They arise by the hundreds on climbing plants that eventually reach 12 to 30 feet high and 4 to 5 feet wide. Not a plant for the mailbox, this is a Clematis you want to blanket your fences and outbuildings, spreading its royal glory for 4 months at a stretch every summer.

Jackmanii can also be grown through strong, tall shrubs and trees. The blooms are excellent for cutting; just float them in a bowl of water for a lovely table centerpiece. They never fail to make an attention-getting display.Best in light (not deep) shade, such as that provided by the high canopies of tree branches.

Trust Clematarian Raymond Evison to come up with the highest-performing Clematis ever grown!

Absolutely tops for nonstop production of giant, 100% fully double blue blooms from early summer right into fall, Franzsiska Marie leaves other Clematis dangling on the vine when it comes to petal power and sheer abundance of flowers. Developed by master Clematarian Raymond Evison, this powerhouse of a climber blooms on both old and new wood, giving you more color than you’d imagine possible from a single plant!Even if the blooms weren’t so plentiful, you’d be wowed by their size, color, and perfection of form.

Fully double, they form a neat 4- to 6-inch rosette nearly as high as it is wide. And while most double-flowered Clematis put on a fairly limited show, Franziska Marie stages a marathon. The flowers begin with the first warm weather of summer and don’t stop until fall chills nip back the plant. The secret is that Franziska Marie? blooms on both old and new wood, so you get twice the buds of most other varieties. And every stem is lined with buds — none of this one-or-two, here-and-there nonsense.

This Clematis reaches 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide, easy to grow and rady to repay a little attention the first year or two with a long, beautiful life. Locate it so that the top of the plant is in sunshine, but keep the roots evenly moist and cool by mulching it in well. Quite tolerant of excessive heat, humidity, and cold once established, it should be pampered with plenty of water and good, enriched soil when young. If you’re planting a line of this Clematis to scramble through a fence or blanket a large arbor, space the plants about 2 feet apart. Pruning Group II.

Zones 4-9.

This Japanese Clematis is a tireless bloomer!

One of the most popular Clematis for its charming blue bells and extraordinarily long bloomtime, Clematis Rooguchi is a delight in any garden. It is a non-clinging variety that is useful as groundcover as well as in large containers and the garden, and it will regale you with masses of blooms all summer and into fall. These flowers are not open and starry like many familiar Clematis, but dangling, bell-shaped, and daintily curled outwards at the bottom, like old-fashioned long skirts.

The base color is rich violet-blue, with a lighter lavender edging. They measure 2 to 3 inches across, and arise profusely from early summer until early autumn. The plant is easy to grow, reaching about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide. A Japanese cultivar, it was introduced by Ozawa in 1990 and has become justly celebrated for its lovely color and long season of color. Pair it with other Clematis in the garden, or let it scrmable across the ground, climb a trellis, or thread its way through a Rose or open-habit small shrub.Grow this herbaceous perennial in shade to part sun, mulching the roots heavily to keep the soil temperature and moisture level consistent.

Rooguchi prefers more shade than many Clematis, thriving in the Hosta or Fern garden magnificently. Space plants about 4 feet apart for good groundcover or densely-set vertical cover.

Zones 4-9.
