These flowers reach 5 to 6 inches across, suffused with long-lasting color and starred with a small, frilly yellow center. Few Clematis bloom in fall and even fewer are fragrant! Add to this Sweet Autumn Clematis’s bushy-cascading 30-foot vining habit, and you have a distinctive, bounteous treasure for the garden.

Beginning in later summer and lasting into fall, thousands of small, 1-inch white blooms appear on this vine, richly scenting the air. The star-shaped blooms are followed by silver-sheened seedheads that make lovely winter arrangements. Give this eager-to-grow vine a sturdy support, such as a strong fence, wall, or even a low building, and watch it spread.

At the beginning of autumn, just as the rest of the garden is looking rather forlorn, these magnificent blooms begin appearing all over tall, vigorous vines. It’s like a second bloom season — and unlike many reblooms, a more interesting one than the first.

Very choice for container culture and ideal for twining up Roses and other shrubs, Pistachio™ reaches 10 feet tall and about 3 feet wide. The flowers are lovely in the vase as well as on the vine, offering long-lasting texture and color. Prune the plant back in early spring to about 12 inches tall. Perennial in zones 6-9; elsewhere, bring containers indoors for winter.

Clematis Silver Moon has a mother-of-pearl coloration with large flowers highlighted by yellow stamens that requires little or no pruning.

Introduced in 1875, this rare heirloom bears fluffy, fully double, 4-inch pompons that are unlike any other large-flowered hybrid. Their delicate complexion of palest pink fades to soft silvery-mauve, creating an unforgettable effect as great clouds appear in early summer and seem to glow in morning and at dusk. It reaches 6 to 8 feet tall, making it an ideal choice for containers, borders, or threading through open-habit shrubs like roses.

If you love the late-blooming giant Sweet Autumn Clematis, you must try its spring-flowering relative! A C. montana hybrid that grows very quickly and never needs pruning (hurrah!), ‘Broughton Star’ offers thousands of semi-double pink blooms over a long season. It is no exaggeration to say that when in bloom, this Clematis transforms the landscape into a sea of rosy-pink.

Beginning in late spring and continuing through early summer, this 15- to 20-foot-long, 5- to 8-foot-wide vine is clothed in 2 1/2-inch blooms the color of crushed strawberries. Semi-double and very showy, they offset the dark green foliage beautifully, and stand out sweetly with their central cluster of yellow and white. You will never complain that this climber isn’t productive enough; ‘Broughton Star’ sets more blooms than seems possible!

Bred by a British couple who named it for their parish, ‘Broughton Star’ was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the British Clematis Society, and has already become a popular favorite in Europe. The new spring foliage emerges in bright bronzy tones, and some of this color remains when the flowers begin, adding even more zip to the display. Very fast-growing, ‘Broughton Star’ makes a fine cover-up for that ugly wall, chain-link fence, or deteriorating garden outbuilding. It can be threaded up trees or open-habit shrubs, or even grown alongside a climbing Rose such as Dream Weaver.It grows easily in full sun or light shade. Zones 5-9.

Each bell-shaped bloom is a masterpiece of violet and silver!

This rambling Clematis reaches 4 to 5 feet long and sets hundreds of small, bell-shaped 1 1/2-inch blooms over a long summer season. Clematis are prized for their profuse display, but this French hybrid (developed around 1820 and related to the classic Clematis x jackmanii) is an overachiever, boasting 3- to 4-inch blooms that offer weeks of dazzling cut flowers.

Endlessly floriferous from midsummer through mid-fall, it is one of the workhorses of the garden, setting masses of single 3-inch blooms of soft mauve-blue. Clematis tangutica My Angel boasts not one but two amazing features; highly unusual flower coloration; and showy plumed fruitheads! This hardy, vigorous climber sports 3/4-inch nodding flowers with petals of purplish-red on the outside, yellow-orange on the inside, and cream around the edges. Blooms begin in June and last through September, followed by wispy, elegant silvery fruitheads freely borne among the disease- and pollution-tolerant foliage.

The blooms are a full 6 inches wide, with symmetrically-held white petals and showy red anthers. It is a non-clinging variety that is useful as groundcover as well as in large containers and the garden, and it will regale you with masses of blooms all summer and into fall. These flowers are not open and starry like many familiar Clematis, but dangling, bell-shaped, and daintily curled outwards at the bottom, like old-fashioned long skirts.

The base color is rich violet-blue, with a lighter lavender edging. They measure 2 to 3 inches across, and arise profusely from early summer until early autumn.The plant is easy to grow, reaching about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide. A Japanese cultivar, it was introduced by Ozawa in 1990 and has become justly celebrated for its lovely color and long season of color. Pair it with other Clematis in the garden, or let it scrmable across the ground, climb a trellis, or thread its way through a Rose or open-habit small shrub.Grow this herbaceous perennial in shade to part sun, mulching the roots heavily to keep the soil temperature and moisture level consistent.

Rooguchi prefers more shade than many Clematis, thriving in the Hosta or Fern garden magnificently. Space plants about 4 feet apart for good groundcover or densely-set vertical cover.
