Athyrium ‘Wildwood Twist’

Curving Fronds Creating a Wavy Effect

Give this Fern a few seasons to stabilize its color pattern.

A very useful source of muted gray and silver tones for the shade garden, ‘Wildwood Twist’ offers fascinating curves and curls on its long, elegant fronds. Sporting tones from silvery-green to smoky gray, it is a vigorous and quite adaptable Japanese Painted Fern, suitable for partial to full shade in border or container.

A bit taller than some others, ‘Wildwood Twist’ slowly grows 18 inches tall and about a foot wide, with very finely cut fronds boasting dark stems and an interesting play of colors. Give this Fern several seasons to stabilize its color pattern — but enjoy the changes and variations you will see in those first seasons, as it is finding its feet in your landscape.

Ideal for humid climates, ‘Wildwood Twist’ needs consistently moist soil, and does not like to dry out. It forms a densely clumping plant that looks as if a breeze were rippling its foliage — a charming effect in any setting.
